Ten Essential Tips To Take the Stress 0ut of Packing

1. Save newspapers, boxes and packaging materials as far in advance of your move as possible.  If you need additional moving boxes, check with your local grocery store.

    

2. Select a room to store  boxes when you begin packing, to avoid cluttering up the house and blocking pathways.

    

3. Make sure to tape the bottoms of all your moving boxes before you start packing. Once full, tape the top and use a marker to display the contents on all 4 sides of the moving box. Categorize by item or room, such as "Videos" or "Den."

    

4. Start packing things that you can do without like extra sheets , rarely used appliances and fine china, reserved for only special occasions.
   

    

5. Wrap fragile items in newspaper. In order to have an eco friendly move, avoid using bubble wrap since that can not be recycled. For additional protection, line with light blankets or sheets and write “fragile” on  all 4 sides of these boxes.
   

    

6. Pack big moving boxes with lighter items, such as linens and kitchen appliances. Pack smaller moving boxes with heavier items, such as dishes and books.

    

7. Take rugs and drapes to cleaners and when you pick them up, leave them in the wrappings for transport.

    

8. Set aside essential items you'll need within the first couple of days of your move, like toiletries and pack these items last, in a special box marked accordingly.

    

9. Locate all valuables, such as jewelry, collections and personal records, and pack separately to take with you.

    

10. When in doubt, throw it out. Consider tossing out old clothes and other items if you have not warn or used within the past 12 months.  Moving is a great opportunity to clean house as opposed to just transferring over the clutter.
